Getting Started

Use Sonavi from an iPhone or iPad

Learn whether Sonavi works on iPhone or iPad, and how iOS users can access Sonavi through a remote Windows desktop.

Quick answer

Sonavi is currently a Windows desktop app, not a native iOS app. iPhone and iPad users can only use Sonavi by connecting to a Windows PC or cloud Windows desktop where Sonavi is installed; the Windows installer cannot be installed or wrapped for iOS.

What iOS users can do

Sonavi must still be installed and running on Windows. If you use an iPhone or iPad, you can access Sonavi only by connecting to a Windows PC or cloud Windows desktop where Sonavi is installed.

In this setup, your iPhone or iPad is the remote access device. Sonavi runs inside the Windows session and inserts text into Windows applications in that session.

This does not make Sonavi available inside native iOS apps such as iOS Mail, Notes, Messages, or Safari.

Use Sonavi through remote Windows access

Use this workflow if your work already happens inside a remote Windows desktop.

  1. Set up access to a Windows PC or cloud Windows desktop that you trust.
  2. Install Sonavi inside that Windows environment.
  3. Connect to the Windows environment from your iPhone or iPad using your remote desktop client.
  4. Confirm that the remote session can use your iPhone or iPad microphone.
  5. Open a Windows application inside the remote session.
  6. Start a short Sonavi dictation and confirm that the final text appears in the Windows application.

Test before important work

Test microphone forwarding with a short dictation before relying on this workflow for important work. Microphone forwarding, latency, shortcuts, and paste behavior depend on the remote access setup.

What does not work on iOS

There is no Sonavi iOS installer for the current Windows app.

  • iOS cannot install Windows .exe installers.
  • WPF and Windows desktop apps do not run locally on iPhone or iPad.
  • Sonavi cannot currently dictate directly into native iOS apps.
  • The current Windows installer cannot be wrapped into a real iOS app.

When remote access is a good fit

Remote access is best for users whose work already happens inside Windows. For example, it can fit a workflow where you use Microsoft Word, Outlook, or another Windows application inside Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, or a remote Windows PC.

Remote access is not a good fit if your main goal is to dictate directly into native iPhone or iPad apps. For that workflow, use an iOS-native dictation option.

Before relying on this setup, verify microphone forwarding and text insertion in the exact remote environment you plan to use.

Examples

Use Sonavi in Word on a Cloud PC

You say: Connect to the Cloud PC from an iPad, open Word in Windows, start Sonavi, and dictate.

Sonavi does: Sonavi runs in the Windows session and inserts the transcription into the Windows version of Word.

This does not insert text into native iPad apps outside the remote Windows session.

Dictate into Apple Notes on an iPhone

Sonavi does: Sonavi cannot install on iOS and cannot dictate directly into Apple Notes as the current Windows app.

Use an iOS-native dictation option for this workflow.

FAQ

Can I install the Sonavi Windows installer on iPhone or iPad?

No. iOS does not install Windows .exe applications.

Can Sonavi be wrapped into an iOS app?

No. The current Windows app cannot be turned into an iOS app by wrapping the installer. A native iOS version would need to be built as a separate iOS application.

Can I use Sonavi through Microsoft Remote Desktop, Windows 365, or Azure Virtual Desktop?

You may be able to use Sonavi this way if Sonavi is installed on the Windows desktop and the remote session forwards microphone input correctly. Test a short dictation first.

Will Sonavi dictate into native iOS apps?

No. When used through remote Windows access, Sonavi inserts text into applications running inside the remote Windows session.

Is there a native Sonavi app for iOS?

Not currently. Sonavi's current application is for Windows.

Avoid unofficial iOS installers

Do not download unofficial iOS installers or third-party wrappers that claim to convert the Sonavi Windows installer into an iPhone or iPad app.
